In the beginning, we see Tennyson and James breaking up. He's a real jerk, but of course, Tennyson was hurt by the breakup and swore off men. The only thing James had allowed her to keep was the dog, because he said he wouldn't have gotten a mutt anyway.Tennyson moves in with a friend from work and settles into a routine that involved her shifts at the restaurant and taking her dog to the dog park. It's there that she meets Par. He was going for a jog while his dog was playing with another dog there. There were three dogs but only two owners, and the next day, the third dog was still there, so they realized he'd been abandoned.
Their first date started out as the intent to make up flyers to try to find Duke's owner.
Christmas was approaching but Tennyson thought she'd end up spending it alone. Her parents were out of town, but the more time she spent with Par the more she liked him.
Then her roommate came home drunk and Tennyson's dog had slipped out on her. She woke Tennyson, then passed out herself. When Tennyson found her dog hurt, she knew she was too upset to drive but couldn't think of anyone to call to help her...except Par. He ended up helping her in ways she never imagined.
In the end, they're invited to have Christmas dinner with Par's parents but Tennyson is worried they wouldn't accept her, since they'd wanted him to find a nice Indian woman. This was a nice story of blended customs and cultures revolving around a mutual love of dogs...and then each other.

This was a cute and very short romance. It seemed like it went from a by chance meeting at dog park to wanting to share the rest of their lives really quick without much in between.
We were almost 70% into the story before Christmas was even mentioned. And then it was just one line saying Christmas is coming.
Great story with a sad start but a good ending. Girl loses boyfriend, meets guy with dog at dog park and a new romance starts.
This is a lovely story and so is the 2nd book in the series, which I also read. They're very nice, clean books with satisfactory happy endings that leave you with a warm feeling. I like this author.
A wonderful, heartwarming, holiday story to get you in the spirit of Christmas.
Thrown out of her boyfriend's home and life, Tennyson swears off men, but she still has her dog, what more could she need. It's a story of new love, new paths, and dedication to abandoned pets.
A feel good story, encompassing the true meaning of Christmas. Central Bark at Christmas is a must read.
I found this story to be a charming, fast read. A "the good guy comes in first" kind of story. Its not a earth shaking book but its still a nice get-away. There was also a nice touch of dogs who were dearly loved who were adopted. I didn't expect that. The author even adds some information and links ( at the back of the book) for those who want to add a shelter dog into their lives
This is a cute story. She gets dumped by a jerk boyfriend but then meets a great guy in the dog park while exercising her dog. She has sworn off men but he manages to peak her interest. He is Indian but I really didn't see where race was a big issue. It was referred to but not with problems.
I thought the writing was a little cheesy but all in all it was a fun read and I would recommend it.
I was excited to read this because, hey...dogs and Christmas mean it can't get much better, right? But, for me, it fell short. I think I felt rushed through the story. A bit like rushing through a mall but not being able to go in a store or rushing through a store's isles but not being able to stop and examine the merchandise. I have the second book so I'll try again. 🙂
