Falling Like Snowflakes A Summer Harbor Novel Book 1 edition by Denise Hunter Religion Spirituality eBooks

First thoughts: Once again, Denise Hunter shows why she's one of my favorite authors. A swoon-worthy hero, secretive mother travelling with her mute son, and brothers that don't always get along combine for a delightful adventure. This story had a little more suspense and danger than I'm used to from Denise Hunter, but I enjoyed every bit of it.

Plot: Eden Martelli is headed north with her son, Micah, when her car breaks down, stranding her in Summer Harbor, Maine. A series of events lead her to the Callahan's Christmas tree farm. When Beau Callahan discovers the pair sleeping in a freezing cold shed, he feels compelled to help them out. Plenty of mystery surrounds Eden and Micah, or Kate and Jack, the names they're currently using. Their past slowly unravels throughout the book, in unpredictable ways. Beau finds himself fighting his attraction to Kate. He's already got a girlfriend and a strained relationship with his younger brother, who's just enlisted. As a former sheriff's deputy, Beau can't help being curious about Kate's secrets, but his digging may put them all in more danger.

Characters: Eden (aka Kate) is just a mother trying to protect her son. She'll do anything to keep him safe. I admire her strength and need to be independent. Beau is the rescuer type, giving up his career to take care of the family business. Beaus' girlfriend Paige and brothers Riley and Zac add plenty of interesting dynamics to the story, and foreshadow some great things to come in the series.

Recommendation: I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys inspirational romance with a little bit of sparks. Absolutely fantastic book! I can't wait for the rest of the series.

Falling Like Snowflakes A Summer Harbor Novel Book 1 edition by Denise Hunter Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

(4.5 Stars) I can't even imagine being on the run and constantly looking over my shoulder, as Eden is forced to do, but she handles herself and life so well. Me? I would be a complete mess! I love reading suspense, but there's no way I could actually live it. I thought that Ms. Hunter did a fabulous job in weaving together a great suspense with some fine, clean romance.

Eden's controlling husband is dead and when witness protection failed, she's on the run. I really loved how strong and resourceful Eden is. She's got a true mother's heart and will do whatever it takes to protect and provide for her son. When Beau helps her out, by providing her a job, she's unable to resist his manly charms and true goodness. Good thing he's taken! I absolutely adore Beau! He's a protector and as head of his family and a strong member of the community, he's got a lot going for him in solving some secrets--especially surrounding his new employee. He's definitely persistent, but in a steady and kind way.

I love a story with a good supporting cast. Paige, Beau's girlfriend is such a sweet woman and even grumpy Aunt Trudy grabbed a place in my heart. Of course, Beau's brothers are amazing--I'm hoping that Riley and Zac will get their own stories. My only issue is a slight inconsistency. Eden is very good at deciphering a person's personality and aura, yet she married a jerk. It was hard for me to understand why, except that she was desperate and young. Aside from that, I was completely happy with the story from start to finish and I'm looking forward to more!

Content mild violence (vague and matter-of-fact descriptions of murder, spousal abuse, moments of peril); mild-moderate religious elements (the characters are obviously religious, but there's no preaching); no language; mild romance (kissing). Clean for an adult reader!

*I received a copy from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review*
I really enjoyed this book. It is a great romantic suspense that has everything that I enjoy in a book. Mystery, misunderstanding between the characters, edginess, relationships that develop and/or end, and to top it off...throw in faith to help deal with all the tension. Eden Martelli and her son Micah are on the run. Bad guys are chasing them and Eden has tried to cover their tracks by changing vehicles, routes, their names, and even her looks. She is on the way to the cabin of a friend in Maine but the old car that she bought breaks down on the way in the small town of Summer Harbor, within a few hours of their destination. She gets stuck with a broken down car that she leaves at an auto shop. While she and Micah are eating at a cafe, her book bag and all of her money and important things are stolen while she and Micah are in the bathroom. She desperately looks for a job and finally lands one with a family of three brothers and their aunt, who has just broken her leg and needs some help. She and Micah change their names to help keep their identities a secret. She planned to stay for a few weeks until she can get her car repaired and a little money saved. She didn't plan to become attached to the family and didn't want to bring danger to them. We are taken on a wild ride as things play out. Great read!
