What a great story! Serena and Geoffrey are wonderful leads.Serena's secret is revealed to the reader very early in the story. So we understand her fears and evasiveness.
I loved how both Geoffrey and Serena were drawn to each other - yet both were adamant that they did not want to marry! They couldn't keep their hands off each other and this leads to quite a few near misses and finally marriage.
The writing was great, the love scenes hot and the ending almost perfect. I would highly recommend this book.

Interesting plot. Characters are very fleshed out.
This story was so dark. I always have to finish a story but this one was a labor of love I suppose.
Sinful Deception is going to rate three and a half stars from me. The story premise by itself is five stars; a lonely orphaned girl raised in India is taken to London when her family succumbs to a tropical fever. She is a fish out of water but over the years adapts into a strong lady but she is keeping dangerous secrets. What I disliked in this story was the pacing and some of the characters and even the heroine herself at times.
Serena is an aloof young woman who keeps people and especially marriage minded men at a distance. She has lived with her father's family (a grandfather and her aunt) for seven years. She is beautiful adorned with jewels but distant.
Lord Geoffrey Breconridge is a second son who is enamored with the lovely Serena and he sets out to woo her. At first there is only a dance but there is magic between them from the start. Geoffrey speaks Hindi and this surprises and charms Serena. The two find ways to be together, both claim they do not want to marry but I always felt they did not want to hold too strongly to that notion, although Serena has a better reason to eschew the married state than her hero.
For the first quarter of this book, the tension is good and pacing well done but the middle just seems to drag. There are several rounds of Serena telling her Aunt she does not want to marry and her aunt disagreeing, her aunt discussing some suitors etc. The last half hits a good stride but even here there are some rather slow parts that just hampered the flow of the story, like when Geoffrey's sister-in-law has a baby. Pages are spent on Gus's( the sister-in-law's name) breastfeeding, swaddling (which Gus believed was horrible for a baby) and I was surprised Gus opened her gown in front of her father-in-law and brother-in-law to nurse, first time I have seen this in a romance novel.
Serena herself is a hard to fathom. She is deliberately mysterious. She waxes almost poetic about her life in India and the beautiful home her father owned. Actually, these reminiscing's are some of the best parts of this novel. The author has such descriptive language about India that I wished this novel had been set there. What I found shocking was that her father owned slaves. I read the sentence twice to be sure and what is worse Serena seemed to have little compassion for these slaves because she seemed upset that they ran off when her father died amidst a tropical fever spreading throughout the house. What does this woman expect? That they would willingly be enslaved when they had an opportunity to be free? Also she has an overly romanticized view of her father who was a slave owner, kept a harem, and was an adulterer and an arms dealer. As an adult woman, she just cannot see him in any other light than a hero and I wondered how she would feel if Geoffrey decided to keep a string of mistresses. She is blindingly loyal to a grandfather who is prejudiced also. I don't know if the reader was supposed find her overprotective grandfather endearing, I found him to be a bigot.
Now where this book shines is the mystery surrounding Serena. It is unique and interesting. Serena's memories of India are both haunting and joyful. London should be so intriguing and alive. In fact, the mystery of Serena was more captivating than the romance between the leads although that was good.
This is really Serena's story and quite frankly her backstory is superb one. Geoffrey is the supporting act here. He takes things in stride and unlike Serena's family, is totally non-judgmental, a refreshing trait in a hero. This couple's best scenes are when they are discussing India or even speaking Hindi, they transport the reader somewhere else (I would have liked to have read more of their life in India). This couple knows their feelings rather early in their relationship and that's both good and bad. Good because it makes their intimate moments more heartfelt and bad because there is less romantic tension in their love story. Overall an excellent opening but a story that had some flaws.
perfect amazing!! I highly recommended to anyone and everyone!! Thank you !!
Serena's life in India had me reading as fast as I could. her recollections of that time were interesting and, sometimes, harrowing.. Geoffrey was all you'd expect of a duke's son in Georgian England. Their romance was sweet and tender.
This wasn't a bad story; parts of it were interesting and entertaining. But then, just as things seemed to be rolling along nicely, the tale just sagged. This happened throughout; the momentum would be lost, and we were left to plod along for a while until it again picked up.
A man and a women from two very different worlds meet and the sparks fly! Eventually the lovers and their families come to understand and accept their differences!
Good blend with the first. Kept your interest . accurate historical events. Good descriptions interesting characters fun
story line great ending
